Across most of the state, especially in rural areas, it is the convention for drivers, out of respect for the deceased, to pull-over and stop while a funeral passes by. I suspect that as a result, many folks think that it is actually the law to do so.

In fact, it is not. Also, while many states have laws that require drivers to yield to a funeral procession, Texas has no such law. However, funeral processions are usually escorted by peace officers, and obviously if they indicate for you to yield, then you must do so.

Otherwise, if you’re driving down the road and a funeral procession approaches, you are not obligated by the law to pull over. If you wish to do so, be sure to pull completely off the road so if others want to continue on, they can do so safely.
